Authenticity, Seeing Jesus, Doing ChurchFebruary 25, 2008 2:34 pm

I might become a transcriptionist when I grow up.
Check this out; it’s from David’s message yesterday on Hypocrisy.

When it comes to faith, we’re supposed to have stability. One Mask.
You are to be FOUND in Christ.
You are in a costume. You are in an outfit of Jesus.
You’re to zip yourself up in a Jesus suit, and wear that Jesus suit until Jesus becomes who you are. And you can unzip that and when people can look at you, and they see Jesus. And It’s not just a Halloween costume, it’s something you wear everyday of the year. You are found in Jesus, and that is the one mask that you wear, and it magnifies your voice and it magnifies the voice of Jesus Christ. What we often find is that the different masks that we wear magnify different things. So the world hears all of these different masks and voices and people that you portray, and it’s causing damage to those outside of the faith, and prohibiting them from coming to understand that God loves them, and wants to be in right relationship with them.

Wow. I want people to see Jesus in my actions…and reactions. Better yet, I want to respond instead of react.
There’s so much self-control involved in submission.
Sometimes that seems like an overwhelming task, but I know a good place to start is in the Word. More. Consistently.
I just want to embrace this.
I hope you do as well.

Today we talked about Hypocrisy at The Vine. In Jim and Casper Go To Church Casper, the atheist, really has a problem with people who seem to select a topic, and then pick-and-choose scriptures that support their assertions…even if they are used out of context. Check this out:

“…Cherry-picking bits and pieces of the Bible to support your chosen topic? I think that’s like asking someone to understand the meaning of the Mona Lisa but only letting that person look at her hand. It’s simple: If the Bible is really they Word of God, it’s very, very important to not take it out of context. I mean, that’s a rule that applies to most every phrase ever said, so you’d think it’d apply tenfold to the Bible! You can’t look at Leviticus and say God hates gay people, then ignore Jesus’ endless commands to love each other. You can’t take a snippet of the Bible out of context and misuse it, or spin it, to support your particular pitch. That’s twisted.”

Very interesting, especially in relation to hypocrisy. Your thoughts?

Welp, we’re all Hannah Montanaed out. We did have one kickin’ dance party though, if I do say so myself. Oh, and while I’m at it — to all of my 2nd grade teacher friends, bless you. You should get paid double. Seriously.

Here are Katelynn and her new penguin friend posing with her favorite gangstas…

And my favorite large carnivore teaching some peanut butter cake a lesson…right off the cake stand. His favorite cake would be full of protein. We kicked it back to the old skool and bartered some cake for some briskets. Holy brisket, batman; that junk was amazing! And sweet little Tanner, who was at times overwhelmed by the disco ball, found a friend to hang out with, too! A good time was had by all. Special thanks to Claudia for the facility hook-up; it was the perfect place for a dance party!

Do you remember how much fun it is to be 8? I’d forgotten.
When you’re 8, bowling is high-quality entertainment.

You choose Moe’s when offered dinner of your choice.
(By the time you’re old like me, you always vote Longhorn.)

You take a shower and put on make-up to lip-sync karaoke…
in your living room. By yourself.

And then you write stories. Fictional stories. With markers.
At 11:00 at night. In coordinating pajamas.

My favorite memories from age 8 are reading The Boxcar Children and playing Oregon Trail and Fraction Munchers on an Apple IIE. My Apple obsession started young. I was Pippi Longstocking for Halloween. And I got glasses in 2nd grade. Pink plastic ones. I was so freakin’ cool. Ha ha not.
What are your favorite memories of 8?

The K-Dawg turns 8 today. I can’t believe she’s that old!

It seems like just yesterday she was turning one:

Amidst all of the thoughts like, “oh goodness…we have 8 years ’til she’s driving and 10 years ’til college…and we need to come up with like $75K to pay for all of that…” I’m just so thankful and overwhelmed that I get to be her mom. She has such a sweet spirit, and her firecracker personality keeps us entertained and challenged. She’s witty, creative, brilliant, hilarious, fiesty, loving, dramatic, and animated…and I’m so proud of her I can’t hardly stand it. So…Happy Birthday, Katelynn! We love you. :D Stay tuned for pictures from the most rockstar Hannah Montana Dance Party imaginable. It’ll be ten-tons-of-fun, no doubt!

i don’t twitter. i’m afraid it would become another time-sucking obsession.
if i did twitter, however, i’d say things like this:

is there a place you can go to rehab for chocolate chip addiction?
i think i might could get a scholarship.

you wouldn’t believe some of the awesome things that run through my head. :D ha
