Valentine’s Day was always my favorite school holiday. Creating little personalized boxes for the highly anticipated card exchange usually involved excessive construction paper, stickers, markers, doilies, and glitter…clearly the best possible use of taxpayer dollars. Nick started our day off with surprise cards and gifts for Katelynn and I on the kitchen counter (!), and then we headed to the Chick-fil-A on Sugarloaf at 6:15am to see if they were really serving heart-shaped biscuits. They were. Thanks for breakfast, mom! What a nice treat.

No one believed that Tanner could drink from a straw, so we had to demonstrate. It’s hilarious. And, note, that’s unsweetened tea. Please don’t give my kid any sweet tea or I’ll have to personally beat you down. ![]()

Nick’s love language is Heinz Ketchup, Chocolate, and Carbohydrates, so Katelynn and I spent several hours trying to show him how much we love him. Mostly from scratch. Salisbury Steak with Sauteed Portabella Mushrooms and Vidalia Onions (well, for Nick, the vegetables were replaced by a ketchup heart,) White Cheddar Mashed Potatoes with homemade Brown Gravy, Black-Eyed Peas, Multigrain Bread, and Chocolate Parfaits. We even used a table cloth and candles. Ha…who knew we owned a table cloth? Sometimes I surprise myself! Anyways, Nick was excited and the food was great. Katelynn and I have our best QT in the kitchen…in her own words, “Duh Mom, Cooking is my passion! Why do you think I spend like 3 hours a day staring blankly at the Food Network?!?” Um…perhaps we need to start limiting TV time.

Hope you spent the day with someone you love.

I enjoyed starting my day with breakfast with the Moons, too. The girls were so cute in their matching hair bows (thanks, Liz) and Valentine’s Day smiles. Tanner loved watching Katelynn in the play area even if it was 7:00 am. Katelynn sounds just like you saying cooking is her passion - develop that joy, you will never regret that QT. Yummy ketchup and carbs meal - good wifey! I enjoyed school today with all the cards, cookies, candies, fun. I even got a chocolate rose from a student. Valentine’s Day should be a happy time and it was for me! My red roses are beautiful by the way.
40 years is a long time to have the same Valentine. (36 married and 4 dating)
